Oven to Air Fryer: Choose Your First Time and Temperature

Use an oven-to-air-fryer conversion as a first trial.

400 °F oven → 375 °F air fryer; 20 minutes → 16 minutes

Convert the recipe, then check the appliance

Use an oven-to-air-fryer conversion as a first trial. A common starting adjustment subtracts 25 °F from the oven setting and reduces the stated time by 20%. Thus 400 °F for 20 minutes becomes 375 °F for 16 minutes. This adjustment does not establish a safe internal temperature or guarantee browning. Follow the appliance manual when it gives different advice.

Keep Fahrenheit and Celsius consistent

A 25 °F temperature difference equals about 13.9 °C. Do not subtract 25 °C from a Celsius recipe. For an oven recipe at 200 °C, the same adjustment gives about 186 °C. Set the nearest supported temperature and start checking before the estimated finish. Record the setting that worked for your appliance and portion size.

Change one condition at a time

Keep food thickness and batch size close to the original trial. Spread pieces with room for airflow, and turn or shake food when the recipe requires it. If the outside darkens before the center cooks, use a lower setting rather than relying on a shorter timer alone. A thermometer checks doneness; appearance and converted time cannot replace it.
