The 0.75 default is a recipe substitution starting point, not an exact fat-content calculation. Use a tested recipe or edit the ratio. Butter and oil differ in water content, texture and ability to hold air; creamed or laminated doughs may not tolerate a direct swap. Volume units here do not convert to grams.
How to use Oil to Butter Conversion
- Choose the conversion direction and enter the quantity in the unit shown.
- Select the ingredient and measuring standard, or enter the density, yield or substitution convention requested by this tool.
- Select Calculate. Read the result and the assumption printed below it. Reset returns the form to its starting values.
Calculation method
Oil volume = butter volume × chosen oil-to-butter ratio. Reverse: butter volume = oil volume ÷ ratio.
Worked example
With a chosen ratio of 0.75, 0.75 US cup oil corresponds to 1 US cup butter. This is a substitution estimate, not equal fat or a guarantee of recipe performance.
