250 g of Flour: Work Out US and Metric Cup Measures

Suppose your recipe calls for 250 grams of all-purpose flour and your ingredient reference uses 120 grams per US cup.

Choose the flour basis before dividing

Suppose your recipe calls for 250 grams of all-purpose flour and your ingredient reference uses 120 grams per US cup. Divide 250 by 120 to obtain about 2.083 US cups. The result is specific to that flour reference and measuring method. If the recipe supplies both grams and its own cup equivalent, retain the recipe's relationship rather than replacing it with a general preset.

A 250 mL cup changes the number of cups

The tool treats a US cup as about 236.588 milliliters and a metric cup as 250 milliliters. At the same ingredient density, 250 grams occupies about 1.972 metric cups, not 2.083 metric cups. The mass stays 250 grams. Only the size of the container changes. Select the actual measuring cup standard rather than choosing the number that looks most convenient.

Measure consistently when a scale is unavailable

Use the flour preparation and measuring method stated by the recipe, then level the measure as directed. Do not pack extra flour into the cup to make it fit a rounded result. A conversion cannot remove variability in scooping, settling or sifting. When a recipe is sensitive to flour quantity, borrowing a suitable scale or using a tested volume-based recipe is preferable to treating several decimal places as kitchen precision.
