Choose texture before calculating volume

Garlic powder is finer than granulated garlic. Minced fresh garlic contains moisture and distinct pieces. These forms disperse and cook differently, so choose the one that suits the recipe before comparing spoonfuls. A dry seasoning blend and a pan sauce may call for different forms even if both aim for a similar garlic flavor.

Treat default equivalents as estimates

The tool uses a medium clove as the reference, with approximate powder and granulated equivalents. Product instructions take priority because grind and strength vary. If a label gives its own substitution, use that relationship. Do not treat an estimate for plain powder as an equivalence for garlic salt or for minced garlic packed in liquid.

Keep a product-specific note

When a substitution works, record the brand, form, measured quantity and dish. Use level measuring spoons, and adjust in small steps. Stored minced garlic products may differ in acidity, liquid and added ingredients, so read their labels. A consistent note gives more useful guidance next time than an assumption that every jar bearing the word garlic behaves the same way.
