Find full and noble-gas ground-state electron configurations for neutral H–U atoms, with shell populations and recognised filling exceptions.
Method, examples and limits
Select a neutral element with atomic number 1 through 92. The calculator returns a ground-state configuration in full and noble-gas notation, plus shell populations. Explicit corrections cover familiar exceptions including chromium, copper and palladium.
For sodium, the full configuration is 1s² 2s² 2p⁶ 3s¹, its abbreviated form is [Ne] 3s¹, and its shell populations are 2, 8, 1. Occupied subshells are displayed by principal shell rather than as an energy-order diagram.
This version covers H through U and does not calculate ions or excited states. A subshell list is not a complete orbital-box or spin diagram. Consult evaluated atomic data when a configuration is needed for research or spectroscopic interpretation.
