Separate food moisture from the water bowl

A total-water target includes water supplied in food as well as drinking water. Treating the whole total as an extra amount to force from a bowl can misread that basis. Keep the source of the target and the estimate of food water explicit.

Use Dog Water Intake Calculator to work through these inputs while keeping the displayed assumptions in view.

The remainder is not a fluid prescription

The subtraction does not assess dehydration or determine treatment. Unusual thirst, poor intake or illness needs veterinary assessment. The form does not tell you to restrict, force or medically administer water.

This question belongs to the Dog calculators group within Biology calculators.

Read the calculation on its stated basis

Total water under the entered plan = kg × chosen mL/kg/day. Arithmetic remainder = max(0, total − food water).

Not a prescription for forced drinking or fluid therapy. An entered target does not assess dehydration or illness.

Retain the input definitions and units with the result. A later comparison should use the same basis; a change in method is a new scenario, not simply a more precise version of the old number.

Keep related questions separate

Dry Matter Calculator addresses a related part of the measurement or interpretation task. Check its own method before carrying a value from one tool to the other.
