Original instructional diagram for Wet and Dry Pet Food Comparisons: Put the Nutrient on the Same Moisture Basis. Values, when shown, are illustrative; clinical images do not recommend a dose.
Put the nutrient and moisture on the same basis
The as-fed nutrient percentage and moisture percentage need to describe the same product. Dividing by the dry fraction removes moisture mathematically. A guaranteed minimum and an actual measured nutrient concentration are not necessarily identical analytical quantities.
Use Dry Matter Calculator to work through these inputs while keeping the displayed assumptions in view.
A higher dry-matter percentage is not automatically better
The conversion does not establish digestibility, energy balance or suitability for an animal’s condition. It is one way to compare concentrations after correcting for water. Keep the complete product and feeding context when making nutritional decisions.
This question belongs to the Other animals calculators group within Biology calculators.
Read the calculation on its stated basis
Dry matter % = 100 − moisture %. Nutrient dry-matter % = as-fed nutrient % ÷ dry-matter % × 100.
Retain the input definitions and units with the result. A later comparison should use the same basis; a change in method is a new scenario, not simply a more precise version of the old number.
Keep related questions separate
Dog Food Calculator addresses a related part of the measurement or interpretation task. Check its own method before carrying a value from one tool to the other.
